Jae Edwards (He/Him) is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University where he attained his B.S. in Sociology with a concentration in Social Inequalities and minors in Political Science, Leadership Studies, and Communications. He is currently pursuing his M.Ed in Educational Leadership at UNC Charlotte and hopes to utilize it to help higher education and postsecondary options become accessible. He calls Concord, North Carolina home and is no stranger to the Charlotte and Kannapolis area. During his time at App State, Jae served as the Director of Diversity and Inclusion for the Student Government Association, as well as, a teaching assistant for Social Deviance.
Jae’s passion for equity work stems from his involvement in the community. Recently, he held the title of Director of Community Outreach for Black in Boone and served as a founding member of BlackAtAppState, both being Black radical organizations. He believes that the answers to society’s problems rest within oppressed communities and by listening to the needs of those that are left out of the conversation. In his free time, Jae enjoys taking naps with his cat Doja, playing Super Smash Brothers Ultimate with his friends, and rewatching Game of Thrones.
